We developed a procedural based method to simulate 2.5 dimensional (2.5D) water flows for animating images. Given an image, we transform the image to a 2.5D structure (e.g., a relief map) and then simulate water flows flowing over the 2.5D structure. Our method has three steps: image processing, water simulation and rendering. Our rendering technique is based on a simple ray tracer. Our method can simulate realistically water flows at real time rates.
